Virginia Alice Smallman of Morton GroveFuneral services for Virginia Alice Smallman (nee Cooke), 96, formerly of Naperville and Chicago, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville. The Rev. Nicholas Mitrovich will officiate. Born Nov. 4, 1906, in Chicago, she died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Bethany Terrace Centre in Morton Grove. Interment is private. Mrs. Smallman was raised in the historic Pullman area in Chicago. She was a graduate of the Chicago Teacher's College, and a 1932 graduate of Boston University, receiving a bachelor's degree in religious education. She had taught school for many years in the Chicago Public School System. Virginia served as the director of Children's Work for the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was the first certified director of both Christian education and music for the Northern Illinois Conference. She had been a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Naperville and served as the librarian in the reading room in Naperville from 1976 to 1986. …
